Methodology for Conducting Economic Feasibility Studies
The required capital for covering all establishment costs such as licenses, recruitment, equipment, finishes, and others is estimated. Then, operational costs such as rents, subscriptions, annual and monthly bills, maintenance, etc., which are ongoing throughout the year and related to the project’s operation, are estimated. The number of employees needed, their salaries, allowances, insurance, housing, and end-of-service benefits are also estimated.
Working Capital is estimated, calculated through wages, operational costs, and some production costs, as deemed suitable by the consultant
A sales and revenue model is built for the project, setting and testing prices, the impact of seasonality on demand, estimating the demand size, and market share
After estimating sales, direct production costs related to production and sales, which decrease as they are reduced and increase with higher sales, are estimated. (For example, material costs and packaging in food-related projects).
The results of establishment costs, operational costs, salaries, sales, and production costs are reflected in the form of cash flows for the project, representing the inflows and outflows of money for the project
The project's profitability is measured based on its financial outputs and compared to financial inputs, including the payback period, internal rate of return on investment, net profit margin, etc. This helps assess the project’s profitability and financial attractiveness
The work is carried out in the form of a dynamic technical and financial model that can easily and immediately change and modify its data. This allows the consultant and client to test the project's sensitivity to the most influential external and internal factors. Based on this, the project’s (investment) risk level can be assessed, and projects with high sensitivity and risks might not be recommended for execution.
All these results are reflected in a simplified final report aimed at discussing the feasibility study results easily and sharing them with relevant parties.
The idea is discussed with the project owner, and the product and service list may be initially modified according to the consultant’s experience and knowledge of similar or competing projects. Then, an initial list of project specifications, such as location, products, services, competitive advantages, etc., is made. The consultant begins working on the technical and financial model for the business.
